Wedding/ Wesele w Lublinie

NYC/ Lublin 2009

In the winter of 2006, I saw a coat hanging in a tree, on one of the rides from Warsaw to Lublin. Since the project group had already extensively experimented with the wedding-dress motif and the forest theme, just a few kilometers away on the other side of the tracks, one could interpret this phenomenon, following poetic principles, as the appearance of the groom. This ghostly photo was taken on the way back, and the coat was adventurously recovered two weeks later by two female students, and taken to Dresden, where it has been hanging in the class studio ever since.

In the summer of 2009, we wanted to celebrate the marriage of two principles, represented by the coat and the wedding dress, namely, wisdom and the “self-sufficient wholeness.” Here, a more thorough discussion was necessary. As always, it was about going to places and making an effort, for a given period there, to hold in mind and embody contents and connections that are actually divergent and irreconcilable.
